Oulton BSB: East finds his four-stroke riding style

East Racing's James East  is aiming for his fourth podium and hopefully debut season win in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 championship tomorrow at Oulton Park as he starts from second place on the grid.

In the first qualifying session East held poll position for a lot of the session until he was briefly knocked down by Freddie Russo of AP Kawasaki.  Looking like a done deal East retaliated and reclaimed the top spot by one tenth of a second. Repeating a similar on track battle from the last round where yet again East just pipped Russo to a front row qualifying position.

Hoping that the weather would play into his hands, it was looking as East might have kept the top spot, but it was Keith Farmer of Farmer Racing set the fastest lap of 1'42s.  As usual this race is set to be an entertaining one as East, Russo and Glen Irwin of Kawasaki Team Green line up on the front row.

East at the moment is fifth in the championship, despite two non-scoring rounds he has constantly scored some solid points which keeps him well and truly in the championship.  Talking to www.bikesportnews.com, he said: "This year, I've had my mistakes, had mistakes with the bike as well but I've always been up there so hopefully, we're only half way through the season, we can try to pull some points back on Farmer.

Talking about Farmer who currently leads the championship by 38 points, he added: "At first he had luck thrown his way, literally thrown his way because I threw my bike at the field. The weather as well, he is a really good supermoto rider, when you get wet conditions they really excel at that, where as I don't. I am not a wet weather rider at all, I just hold my own and get through it. If we start getting some decent weather, I know I am strong at Brands Hatch and Silverstone."

East still continues to race in a family run team, which seems to be when he is at his happiest and the results continue to show despite still riding his regular 2009 Yamaha R6. "The team and bike just works a treat. It has taken a while to get used to it, get out of my old habits from riding two strokes before and I think it works really well now," he said.
