Samsung Suzuki's John Hopkins has taken his second British Superbike pole position in a row today at Oulton Park, nicking it from under the nose of Tommy Hill. The American wasn't fastest in the first two parts of the rack but pulled it out of the bag in the last sector to depose the Swan Yamaha man.

Team-mate Michael Laverty was third and fourth-tenths of a second in arrears but it easily enough to keep HM Plant Honda's Shane Byrne in fourth and on the outside of the front row. Ryuichi Kiyonari is at the head of row two with Loris Baz and Alex Lowes in the middle. Peter Hickman, on the Tyco Honda, rounds out row two with James Westmoreland and Josh Brookes making up the top ten.

Qualifying two

Tommy Hill 1'35.608

John Hopkins 1'35.877

Michael Laverty 1'35.989

Both the Motorpoint Yamahas of Westmoreland and Baz left it until the very last lap to break into the top ten and their laps were at the expense of BSB's old stagers Michael Rutter and Chris Walker while Brookes just nipped into the top ten with his final circulation.

MSS Colchester Kawasaki's Gary Mason will be disappointed to be down in 14th after his third yesterday afternoon, especially as Alex Lowes made it through, while all the remaining Evo class bikes got the chop. James Ellison, on the Sorrymate Honda, was in pitlane with only a few minutes left and didn't make it through even though he made it back out.

Hopkins wasted no time in bagging his fast lap, bumping Hill into second before team-mate Laverty intervened and parked himself in front of the Lingfield man. All three were on laps a second off the pace from earlier in the year.

Baz got himself out of the drop zone with his final lap while Smart hauled himself into the second session, going up from 21st to 20th at the expense of Buildbase BMW's Barry Burrell. Karl Harris was also in the relegation zone.
