Brands BSB: Aussie champ Allerton replaces Tunstall

Australian Superbike Championship leader Glenn Allerton has been drafted in to replace the injured Tom Tunstall for this weekend's British Superbike round at Brands Hatch and placed 21st in the official test session yesrterday afternoon.

Allerton was brought in after Tunstall sustained serious injuries at the Snetterton round. The Doodson-backed rider received fractures to his pelvis and sacrum after hitting oil at the Norfolk track and soon realised he wouldn't be racing again soon.

The Aussie is running away with this year’s Australian Superbike Championship, having finished on the podium in every race, and winning 50% of them, BMW-mounted Allerton has established a 56 point lead with three rounds remaining. He won the series in 2008.

“As soon as the injuries were diagnosed I quickly realised we’d need to arrange another rider. I started making calls from my hospital bed and was very close to sorting it in time for Oulton. For contractual reasons that didn’t happen but we continued to work hard," said Tunstall.

“Glenn is highly thought of by BMW, and his success on the S1000RR in this year’s Australian Superbike Championship speaks for itself. It's certainly in at the deep end for him, he hasn’t used Pirellis or seen any of the UK tracks before, and his first full day of the bike will include qualifying and a race!

"Glen is very motivated and enthusiastic about coming to BSB with the Doodson Motorsport team. We are looking forward to working with him and confident he will quickly adapt."
