Irishman Michael Laverty led a Swan Yamaha one-two in the first British Superbike race of the weekend at Cadwell Park which was stopped because of rain with a handful of laps to go but a collision between Josh Brookes and Michael Rutter is under investigation by the stewards.
Laverty and Hill broke away from the pack on lap one as Rutter passed Brookes into Park but then held up the Australian and HM Plant Honda's Shane Byrne to the point where Brookes tried a pass into Hall Bends, the two came together and Rutter ended up in the hay bales.
Brookes managed to stay ahead of two-time champion Byrne while his team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari made his way from the back of the grid that was decided at Oulton Park and got past Gary Mason and Jon Kirkham, who are rivals for the final Showdown place. Mason was baulked in the Rutter/Brookes clash and couldn't re-group.
Samsung Suzuki's Kirkham eventually grabbed fifth, re-passing the Japanese rider before the outing was red-flagged. Rutter's team-mate Martin Jessopp took eighth, Peter Hickman ninth and Evo man Glen Richards rounded out the top ten.
Richards' WFR team-mate Graeme Gowland just couldn't catch the Aussie so settled for second in the Evo class while Scott Smart took another podium in third.
We await the stewards decision for confirmed results.
