RS Racing's Kyle Ryde took the win in the Sunoco British 125GP Championship and picked up maximum points at Cadwell Park this afternoon. The youngster crossed the line with over a 14-second lead as SP125's Rob Guiver, the then championship leader, was forced to retire on the last lap.
Ryde just took the lead from the start to just ride away into the distance leaving KRP's Wayne Ryan and Guiver to battle for second. Luke Hedger of Banks Racing, a usual race challenger, unfortunately crashed out at the mountain on lap one but fortunately was unhurt.
The top ten had a mixture of riders, starting from fourth there was Ryan Watson of Appleyard/Macadam Racing, Lee Jackson of Team Jackson Racing, Tom Carne of RCD/FPW, Bradley Ray of FAB Racing, Jordan Weaving of SP125, Philip Wakefield of PWR/Sandbach Scrap Metal and Callan Cooper of RCD/FPW. The leading three started to immediately pull away from the rest of the pack. On lap three Guiver found away past Ryan but already there was just under nine seconds to the race leader.
It took a few laps more before Ryan regained his second position, it was clear that the battle was going to be between these two and the race was Ryde's to lose. There wasn't much change until Guiver took the lead on lap 10 just before they hit the first backmarker. Unfortunately as Guiver came over the mountain his chain came off ending his race and stealing valuable points away from his title lead. This puts him under immense pressure for the next three rounds as he now has lost the top spot and is a mere two points ahead of third place due to Ryde and Ryan gaining valuable points this weekend.
Weaving crashed a couple of corners away from the chequered flag, but was able to rejoin and pick up two points in 14th. This meant that Ryde went onto win by over 14 seconds ahead of Ryan who finished 17 seconds ahead of Watson. Jackson grabbed fifth ahead of Carne, Ray, Wakefield, Cooper, Repli-Cast UK's Nathan Westwood moved up the order as did E3 Motorsport's Joe Irving, Percy of Nigel Percy Racing, Bradley Hughes of Brad H Racing, Catherine Green of CG Racing and KRP's Bey took the final point in 15th behind Weaving.
The top three not only took the places in the main championship but also the cup series.
Championship points:
Ryan 131
Guiver 127
