CN Racing's Taylor Knapp is a new addition to the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship grid this year and Cadwell Park saw the American take part in only his second race in the British series where finished just outside the points in 17th before returning to the USA fo rAMA duties.
The Michigan rider is currently taking part in the AMA Pro American SuperBike series but will take part in the remainder of the 2011 BSB season with the aim of returning full time next year. The opportunity to ride with the Yorkshire based team came about due to him previously working with the crew chief Dwayne McCracken.
Catching up with www.bikesportnews.com, he said: “This is my second race with the team, for me coming over here there is a lot of new stuff, new tyres, new bike, new team and everything. For me it's been tough, I've been wanted to do a lot better than where I have been finishing but we haven't seen any of the tracks. We did test once at Cadwell I went really well I was in the 1.31s; we came back this weekend and I am struggling to get back to where I left off.
“It's really tough there is so many people out there and the class is really competitive. The team's been great so far, the bike is really fast and I am really gelling well with the team so it's just up to me. I like the track a lot it's got a lot of different stuff, the mountain and all the stuff is a lot different to what I'm used to but it's really fun. It's got a good flow when you get a good lap, the only thing that is tough is that it is really narrow, never ridden a track this narrow.”
Like most Knapp started off motocrossing and due to his dad previously racing he started to, for fun at first but then at 16 he started racing in the AMA. He currently sits eighth in the Daytona Sportbike series, he has had a couple of top five finishes and is pleased with how things have been going.
The 24 year old is now in New Jersey for the last AMA race before returning back to the UK. Over the next three rounds he aims to keep improving, learn the bike along with the tracks before hopefully stepping up to a whole new level next season and being a championship contender for the Superstock series.
