Relentless Suzuki's Alastair Seeley won again this afternoon at Donington Park in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport championship gaining valuable points on current series leader Gearlink Kawasaki's Ben Wilson as Oxford Tag Triumph's Christian Iddon gives Seeley the most pressure.
Both Seeley and Wilson got a good start, but Seeley took to the front. Oxford TAG's Paul Young went into third ahead of teammate Iddon. A couple of corners later Wilson took to the front as Seton Yamaha's Sam Warren crashed out on the first lap ending a disappointing weekend for the Swanwick rider.
As lap two came to end, Iddon moved up to third and was constantly on the back wheel of Wilson as Seeley regained the lead to immediately start pulling a gap. A lap later Iddon also moved ahead of the green Kawasaki.
For what turned out to be quite a sedate race, Seeley started to run away again with the win to have over a 5.7 second lead by lap eight. Iddon was still holding his second place defending off Wilson, who now was getting pressure from Young who eventually moved ahead of Wilson on lap nine.
There was a bit of a gap to Jimmy Hill of MAP Triumph who previously followed by Lincs Liffting's Gary Johnson and David Paton Double M Racing, who both on lap eight drastically disappeared down the order to 12th and 13th. This meant that Josh Day of Smith's Gloucester was up to sixth after also working his way through the field followed by Oxford Tag Triumph's Billy McConnell.
The biggest attacks then came from Iddon and Young who fought for second place with Wilson on hard on their trail. After the three bikes were side by side into a corner Young lead the group out, Wilson slotted in behind as Iddon fell to the back of the group. This was later thought because Iddon had started to be aware of the rain. Just as Iddon got back ahead of Wilson the race was red flagged due to the conditions. Slightly after Young then crashed out leaving his bike at the side of the track while getting a ride back to the pit with McConnell after apparently being informed that the race had been declared.
In the seven lap restart of which Young was able to rejoin, Seeley took the lead, Iddon got second ahead of Wilson, but it wasn't long till Young on a rapidly repaired motorcycle moved ahead to third. McConnell rounded off the top five. Iddon this time couldn't get away from Seeley easily, Seeley went wide on the Melbourne loop almost giving the lead to Iddon before then on the exit going onto the grass, but he still managed to stay ahead. It wasn't long after that due to Paton's bike engine's blowing up the race was again red flagged and the race declared.
Seeley took the win ahead of Iddon and an impressive combat for Young. Sam Hornsey of Hornsey Steels Racing took the cup win in 12th overall ahead of T3 Racing's John Simpson current cup series in 14th and Emmet O'Grady of ABSOL Racing in 18th picking up his first podium of the year. Jenny Tinmouth of Max Glass and Glazing picked up her best result of the season in 11th. Hill grabbed sixth as Day who put in an astonishing ride to finish 13th after he was forced to re-start from the back of the grid picking off ten riders in three laps.
