Donington BSB: 'Fantastic' podium for 125GP man Ray

FAB's Racing Bradley Ray achieved his best result of his debut season in the Sunoco British 125cc Championship at Donington Park, adding even more success to an already impressive year.

The Lydd rider is taking part in his first year racing at British level and riding a Honda GP125, a 43bhp bike which is a step up from the 27bhp Metrakit PreGP 125 bike he was riding last season on which he grabbed fourth in the Thundersport cup series.

Ray, in the cup series, has scored points at nine of the ten rounds which has included two podium finishes in addition to grabbing points in the main championship seven times that now includes a second place finish. His continuous strong results has currently put him seventh in the main championship and sixth in the cup.

Talking about his weekend result and his most memorable moment of the season, he said: "Fantastic. When I came through the start finish straight and saw P2 on my pit board I couldn’t believe it. I knew Rob Guiver was behind and would be chasing hard so I got my head down and pushed as hard as I could.

"When the chequered flag came out, wow excited and relieved, now I want more. This year has gone better than expected.  I never dreamt I would get into the top 10 so to get a fourth at Thruxton in the wet and then second at Donington in the dry, brill.

“My goal for each round was to improve my qualification position which I've managed to do. I started on the seventh row at Brands Hatch at the first round and have moved up to the second row at Donington last weekend. Session by session is to improve the bike and then improve my times and also to learn more of what my bike is telling me. As a rider I've learnt how important qualifying is and the feedback I can give Dad [mechanic].”

The 14-year-old, whose ultimate goal is MotoGP, will venture back on track in just over a week's time at Silverstone for the penultimate round of the British 2011 season.
