Former GSE Racing team boss Colin Wright has revealed that he turned down an opportunity to manage the BMW Motorrad World Superbike team in 2012 because his loyalties remained with current boss Darrell Healey.
Wright, who is the most successful team manager in British Superbike history, had a meeting with BMW management on the Monday after the Silverstone WSBK round and was offered a six-figure package to replace the departed Davide Tardozzi but couldn't bring himself to take on the role.
"I was asked to go up to Silverstone on the Monday to meet with the team and have a discussion about what they wanted and what needed to happen. They had heard about our success in BSB, and on the world stage, and wanted to talk to me about my views on their setup," said Wright, speaking to bikesportnews.com this lunchtime.
"Now, I didn't tell them exactly what I thought but came fairly close. They offered me the role anyway but, in my heart of hearts, I didn't really want to go racing for anyone other than Darrell. We have a long association in racing and I still work for him now, so I couldn't do it."
