The Triumph Triple Challenge (TTC) heads north to Oulton Park in Chester for Rounds five and six over the May Day bank holiday weekend, 5-7 May. The undulating Cheshire circuit poses a completely different challenge from the high speeds of the last round at Thruxton and will favour the more technical riders.
Rounds three and four at Thruxton saw three riders dominate the podium positions in the main champion fight, after the championship leader Tom Hayward was sidelined from the weekend following a high speed crash in qualifying. It was the former GP125 rider Rob Giuver however who capitalised on the opportunity, with victories in both races at Thruxton. Giuver had to battle for both wins, fighting all the way to the flag with the South African duo of Phil Atkinson and James Egan in each race. Egan also took maximum points in the ‘Premier’ class, a great weekend for a rider who has never raced at the Hampshire circuit before.
Giuver heads to Oulton this weekend leading the championship, with the competitive South African duo of Atkinson and Egan hot on his heels and looking for any opportunity to close the points gap. Lincolnshire rider Tom Hayward will also be keen to fight back after the disappointment of Thruxton and reclaim lost ground on the championship leaders. Another battle to watch will be the fight for the ‘Premier’ class; Sam Cox and Piers Hutchins will be looking to build on their strong performances at Thruxton to wrestle the class lead from Egan.
Tony Scott, director at T3 Racing and organiser of the TTC, said: “Thruxton delivered some really great racing with the top three riders fighting all the way to the flag in both races; this further demonstrates the competitive nature of the TTC. The move north to Oulton will offer the riders a number of new challenges and selecting the correct set-up for the bikes will be a key factor in determining the finishing positions this coming weekend.”
Qualifying for the Oulton Park TTC will be on Saturday, with race one on Sunday afternoon and race two on Bank Holiday Monday. Monday’s race will also be broadcast live on Eurosport.
