Smith's Triumph managed to box off the front three places in today’s free practice sessions for the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship with Billy McConnell posting the quickest time of the day at 50.648 seconds with team-mates Glen Richards 0.033 seconds behind and Luke Mossey a further 0.189 seconds adrift.
Seton Yamaha’s Sam Warren was fourth quickest in this afternoon’s dry session with Oxford TAG Triumph’s Christian Iddon fifth, 0.322 seconds off of McConnell’s laptime.
Championship leader Jack Kennedy was sixth and the first man outside of the 50 second barrier setting a time of 51.026. Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson came through to seventh after crashing out of this morning’s damp session.
After setting the early pace, Richard Cooper dropped down to eighth with Glenn Irwin also slipping down the order to ninth after crashing early in the session. Rounding out the top ten and still just 0.719 seconds behind the lead was Luke Jones.
Finn Pauli Pekkanen took eleventh followed by David Paton and Gearlink Kawasaki new-boy Dan Cooper. Dean Hipwell was fourteenth with Appleyard Macadam’s Kev Coghlan managing fifteenth at his home round.
