Australian Glen Richards cruised to his third Motorpoint British Supersport victory of the year from lights to flag, beating championship rival Jack Kennedy by over a second.

Smiths Triumph’s Richards took the holeshot closely followed by team-mate Billy McConnell and Sam Warren on the Seton Yamaha. Kennedy moved up from the third row of the grid to be sixth.

Kennedy quickly moved even further forward as he went past both Ben Wilson and Luke Mossey on the brakes into the last corner to take fourth. The Dubliner then got his head down posting two consecutive fastest laps of the race before the Safety Car was deployed on lap 4 due to incident involving Jimmy Hill and David Paton at Seat Curve.

As the Safety Car came in Mar-Train Yamaha’s Kennedy then moved into third and demoted McConnell to fourth. Behind him Richard Cooper was starting to look threatening as he passed Wilson, Mossey and McConnell to move into fourth with eight laps remaining.

After four previous laps of trying, it was on lap 14 when Kennedy finally went past Warren on the brakes into the last corner to take second but his point’s advantage over Richards has been reduced to 22.5. McConnell went into fourth on the same lap and it stayed that way to the flag with Cooper and Mossey behind him in fifth and sixth.

Christian Iddon took seventh and posted the fastest lap of the race in doing so, securing pole position for tomorrow’s feature race. Eighth was Finn Pauli Pekkanen closely followed by Luke Jones taking the Cup victory ahead of Glenn Irwin by just 0.107 of a second. Ben Wilson came home in eleventh after a fuel pump issue forced him out of contention for the podium.
