Brands BSB: Fourth Supersport pole on the trot for Richards

Smiths Triumph’s Glen Richards took his fourth consecutive Motorpoint British Supersport pole position at Brands Hatch today despite an engine blow up ending his session early.

Richards posted a time of a 1’28.247 and looked to go even quicker before plumes of smoke were seen emitting his Triumph and oil left on the circuit causing the red flag to be brought out. Even with 7 minutes remaining, nobody inside the top 20 improved their laptime.

Championship leader Jack Kennedy is second on the grid and 0.163 seconds off of Richard’s pole laptime. Billy McConnell came close to splitting the two Championship contenders but could only get within 0.080 seconds of Kennedy.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson rounds out the front row after coming under pressure from Luke Mossey and Christian Iddon, the pair within a tenth of Wilson. Richard Cooper and Finn Pauli Pekkanen are seventh and eighth on the grid.

Deane Brown moved up from thirteenth to head the third row with Glenn Irwin the best of the Cup competitors in tenth. Mackrory Racing’s James East and 777RR Triumph’s Luke Jones are also on the third row and less than 1.5 seconds behind the fastest lap.
