Smith's Triumph Glen Richards has taken the second Motorpoint British Superbike race win of the weekend and is now leading the championship chase after title rival Jack Kennedy picked the wrong tyre to use on a drying track this afternoon.
As a narrow dry line appeared, most of the field opted for normal race rubber but it is believed Mar-Train Yamaha's Kennedy went for an intermediate, gambling on the heavens opening again but it didn't come off and he crossed the line in seventh place.
Richards turns a 6.5-point deficit into a 9.5-point advantage but he didn't have it all his own way as former British Supermoto Champion Christian Iddon chased him hard and very nearly took both out when he outbraked himself at Hall bends on the final lap but gathered it up to take another podium finish.
Reigning Metzeler National Superstock 100 Champion Richard Cooper came through at the end for third, sticking a block pass on Billy McConnell at the bottom of the Mountain while Luke Mossey rode well to take fifth place.
