Smiths of Gloucester Triumph’s Glen Richards took his sixth consecutive Motorpoint British Supersport pole position this morning at Donington Park in dramatic fashion, after a crash earlier in the session saw him re-scruteneered and checked by medical staff before re-joining the circuit and setting the fastest lap.
Richards had only completed 5 laps before he crashed at Goddards leaving him stuck in pitlane for over ten minutes before being allowed to come back out on track and with just 5 minutes remaining he took pole position with a laptime of 1’31.444. It looked to be under threat by his Championship rival Jack Kennedy a few moments later but the Dubliner could only get within 0.107 of the Aussie’s pole position time.
Fellow Smiths of Gloucester rider Billy McConnell is third on the grid ahead of Christian Iddon, who beat Luke Mossey and Glenn Irwin to the last front row spot. Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson is seventh with Richard Cooper rounding out the second row in eighth.
Finn Pauli Pekkanen is ninth on the grid for this afternoon’s Sprint Race after getting the better of Deane Brown, who is 1.560 seconds behind pole position. Mar-Train Yamaha’s Taylor Mackenzie ended up eleventh in front of Appleyard Macadam’s Nikki Coates in twelfth.
