Donington BSB: Brookes wins race one

Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes won the opening MCE British Superbike race at Donington Park this afternoon was run as a seven-lap dash after the Australian's team-mate Alastair Seeley caused the race to be stopped when his engine let go in a big way down Craner Curves.

The little Irishman was lucky to stay on his GSX-R1000 as oil poured all over his rear tyre and then spilt all the way to the Old Hairpin gravel trap. The clean-up operation took more than half an hour and the second part of the race run as a sprint.

Brookes was as untouchable in the second part as he had been when he led the first and there was nothing reigning champion Tommy Hill could do about the Bringelly man's pace but Hill has been suffering with serious rear grip issues all weekend. His team are at a loss but Swan Yamaha aren't the only team with this problem.
