Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes hadn't won an MCE British Superbike race since the second round at Thruxton but more than made up for it with his strongest weekend of the year to date and his debut double win.

The Bringelly man, who amazingly has never had a double win in the championship, was almost unstoppable in both outings but was kept honest by Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty in the second race.

"That was a long time coming though we have had a strong season - last year I struggled here but this time from first practice the bike has been perfect. I had a good feeling all of the way through, OK I took it a bit carefully through the dust where the oil had been in race one as I was the first rider through it, but I had no moments," said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

"In the second race, I was able to ride as I wanted to and was able to pull out a gap over Tommy. I just kept at it and after a couple of laps it was went quiet and I thought I'd gapped them. I got into a rhythm and put some good laps together, but I didn't get an instant advantage, as Michael was right with me. I made a little mistake, which let him past and he impressed me.

"Once I got back past I was confident the Suzuki would have more tyre life in the closing stages and I was able to create a gap and win quite comfortably. I'm glad the championship is now going into the Showdown stage as we've finally got to the part of the season where it counts. Thanks to the guys this weekend who gave me a great set-up with the GSX-R1000 - the package is working superbly."
