Tyco Suzuki's PJ Jacobsen won the dash to the line to enjoy maiden race winning glory in a Metezeler National Superstock 1000 Championship thriller. Lee Johnston, who had led all of the way until the last few yards, had to settle for second ahead of the hard riding Victor Cox.
In terms of the title scrap Jason O'Halloran reduced his deficit on Keith Farmer to nine points as he brought his Samsung Honda home in fifth, just ahead of the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki riding Farmer.
Pole-starting New Yorker Jacobsen had duelled intensely throughout with Johnston, never more than a couple of bike lengths apart, and both at times looking ragged as they banged the power down. But they held on and despite the ferocity of their scrap they pulled clear, by some seven seconds, of the pursing pack.
It looked as though Johnston had the edge. He led on the Millsport Ducati out of Goddards for the final time, but Jacobsen levelled him aboard his Tyco Suzuki and then took the verdict by 0.001secs as they charged across the line in an almost photo-finish.
"That was a very enjoyable race. Lee to his credit was very strong on the brakes but I was way better on the exit of the turns with our set-up on the GSX-R1000. Sitting behind him I was able to see that his bike was moving about on the gas and I knew he'd take a tight entry into the last turn," said the youngster.
"I knew he'd either get a bit of a highside or a tank-slapper on the exit, which is exactly what happened. I got good drive and used the kerbs and the grass to my advantage."
