WFR Honda's Alex Lowes has backed up his late entry into the MCE British Superbike Showdown stage with a double podium at Assen and he has warned the competition he is not there to make up the numbers.
Lowes, who had previous track knowledge courtesy of a ride with the Castrol Honda team at the Dutch track last year, rode to third place in both races but had to brush aside a challenge from reigning champion Tommy Hill in the second leg to stand on the podium.
“I’m delighted with these results. In the first race I started well and ran with the boys at the front and was confident that I could stay with them and then next time out even though I didn’t get the best of starts I was soon back in it," said Lowes.
"Tommy Hill came past me, but I was quite fast throughout and was able to make the move on him at the last chicane to get third. I’m fourth, in the Showdown and I am not here to make up the numbers and will be doing my best in the remaining races and just see what we can do.”
