Silverstone BSB: Lowes, Laverty wary of tyre problems

Both Sam Lowes and Michael Laverty have expressed concern over tyre strategy heading into tomorrow's MCE British Superbike double-header at Silverstone with the Irishman saying he had to compromise setup to make the Pirellis work for him.

Both Honda riders have qualified on the front row with Lowes on pole but the Lincolnshire rider says he had awesome grip when he reverted to Assen settings for the final fast lap but is worried about tyre wear over the race distance.

“I’m really pleased with the lap but obviously I’m not going to be doing that 16 or 17 times tomorrow. We had a really good setup for qualifying which gave me an immense amount of grip but, like the Samsung Hondas, we seem to be struggling a bit with tyre wear," said Lowes.

Laverty added: "It has been a similar story this weekend like it was at Assen with us working with the tyres and I have had to compromise with the set up to get them working how we need them to. I decided to change the bike in Q2 and we missed the first few minutes and I did one lap and it felt so different that I was missing the apexes and just not where I needed to be.

"I came around and it was red flagged and I was panicking a bit as I was P11 and knew I needed to get through to Q3. I did one lap and it was enough to get me back in and to be back on the front row is important as we need a good weekend here after what happened in Assen. We have our work cut out but fingers crossed we are making progress and getting there."
