Moto Strada Aprilia’s Harry Stafford claimed his debut Monster Energy Motostar victory on his return from the World Championships as Luke Hedger was handed the overall title after the demise of Catherine Green.
TC Racing’s Tom Carne quickly tucked in behind Stafford after the 125 World Championship point scorer took the holeshot from pole position. The duo showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the field and began to share the lead lap after lap.
As they came on to the last lap Stafford held the advantage but on the brakes Carne came storming through to take the lead at the penultimate corner of Brooklands. However, Stafford was having none of it though and squeezed through what seemed to be a non-existent gap at the final corner of Luffield to take the victory.
Behind them, Joe Irving got the better of Luke Hedger to take third but the FPW Racing man had done enough, after Catherine Green broke down, to clinch the 2012 Monster Energy Motostar Championship with one round remaining.
Phillip Wakefield took fifth with Anthony Alonso having a fantastic ride on his debut to both the Silverstone circuit and British Championship to take sixth. Banks Racing’s Joe Francis was seventh ahead of Peter Sutherland with Olly Simpson and Callum Bey rounding out the top ten.
