Taylor Mackenzie has signed to ride for the Tyco Suzuki in the British Supersport class for 2013 and will team up with Superbike stars Josh Brookes and PJ Jacobsen.
The 19 year-old announced his plans at Motorcycle Live this morning on the Suzuki stand under the auspices of Julian Ryder.
“It’s got a great history in the Supersport class, and they are a really professional team and I can not wait to start racing with them and its going to be a great opportunity for me. There is no pressure I only feel pressure from myself to do well. All I want to do is win. My dad helps me everywhere I go, and I couldn’t ask for a better mentor really," said Taylor, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
Taylor’s father is three times British Superbike Champion Niall Mackenzie and says he is fully supportive of his son’s decision, but has told him it will be tough. “Taylor has got a great opportunity next year and hasn’t got much pressure on him because he is a young rider. But any top sport is tough, so you have to cover all the basis like fitness and training, and looking after sponsors.”
Taylor is being realistic about his prospects for 2013 but still wants to be winning races. “I hope to be top seven or top five in the first few races. British Superbike racers Josh Brookes and PJ Jacobson are great team mates and they are great guys too, and I can’t wait to get started," Taylor added.
