Supersonic struggling to find backers for BSB 2013

Italy-based MCE British Superbike outfit Supersonic Racing, who steered Tommy Bridewell to a Showdown spot last season, are teetering on the brink of pulling out of next year's championship.

Boss Danilo Soncini had hoped to secure some support from BMW Motorrad in 2013 but it has not been fortcoming and he is also struggling to snare a title sponsor from the UK. The fact the economy in his native country lurches from bad to worse is compunding the problems.

The Italian is still hopeful he will be able to find a manufacturer to put a bike underneath rider Bridewell, in whom he has huge faith, but says he can no longer afford to do it with his own cash.

"We showed in 2012 that without any experience of BSB series, data, tests, on all new tracks and with bikes not at 100 per cent because we are really strong. We started one month before the start of the championship and for us rules were not clear so we used 'safe spares' only. We are able to be a top team and take a rider without a seat, like Tommy, and help him to show his talent," said Soncini, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

"Saying this, I'm really sad to see no interest from BMW to help us. We helped them to show the potential of the bike, without help, just with our experience and my money. Noo-ne before our arrival was looking at BMW as being a strong bike, now thanks to our season every one know potential of BMW, so sometime a thanks, an award worth more than the budget would be nice.

"Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm here not to make money, I have my job at home in Italy and for me was just passion, just a pleasure, especially now that I know better UK, and English people, that have ceased to be suspicious of the 'new Italian', and start to look about us with respect.

"Looking at my partnership with Bridewell family, they deserve all the best. I love them and I hope to find out a solution to help Tommy to show his talent and have a good career. For him, for Ollie, for Elizabeth and Marcus, and for everyone that is around them.

"I will be forever grateful to them, I have learned many things from them this year, I have gained through them, I saw how people can cope despite tremendous difficulties. And for these reasons if I will find a solution, my bike is only for Tommy.

"For us to find the right sponsors in UK is not easy so for that reason we are looking to stop our adventure in BSB. Now the Italian economic situation is very bad and I can't use my money again to go on, I need to find budget in UK market.

"I'm upset if we can't go on, we had a running-in year, and we were ready to push in 2013 to stay at the top again and help the championship with our contribution to keep the level high. But before I throw in the towel, we are looking if it is possible to find another factory that help us, to give a winning seat for Tommy."
