Milwaukee Yamaha’s James Ellison has resolved the issues he experienced in fMCE British Superbike free practice at Knockhill but the improvements came too late for the Cumbrian as he ran out of time to progress into qualifying three this afternoon, meaning he will start the race tomorrow from the fifth row.
Ellison struggled early on but did improve during the second qualifying session at Knockhill. But the rider was lucky that he did not end up being eliminated in qualifying one, after narrowly avoiding the drop zone, but with ten seconds left of the session managed to push himself to tenth fastest and into Q2. Ellison is now looking forward to race day tomorrow where he is confident he can turn his fortunes around.
“We can turn it around tomorrow. We just found something in the last qualifying session which helped us a lot,” said Ellison.
“We jumped from way down to P10 in Q1 and that was a massive step. So we got a new tyre on and went back out and run the same sort of times and picked up another couple of tenths which is a lot around here.
"We just needed one more tenth to be in that top ten but it was too little too late unfortunately, we figured out what the problem was. We can do these times now so now we just need to raise the bar again in the morning; I have my homework for tonight and we will work hard again in warm up to see if we can make some more steps for the races."
