Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes wants to re-write the MCE British Superbike script to put a stop to Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne taking the race victories.

The Australian tried in vain to do the double at Knockhill today, and in race one he was close to clinching his first win of the year, but was out paced by Byrne in the closing laps. In the final race of the day Brookes could only close the gap on leader Byrne and after a flying start from the defending champion did not have the chance to overtake Byrne to take the victory.

Brookes did struggle slightly in race two, but was able to compose himself to set some fast lap times. But the Suzuki rider’s next mission is to stop Byrne’s continuing winning streak, and is now looking forward to competing at Snetterton.

“During the middle of race two I had a bit of a low point, I kept spinning the tyre and kept loosing ground and it was becoming a bit disheartening when you could see someone slipping away, and I was loosing momentum,” said Brookes.

“Then I started to change my lines through the chicanes and tried to go straight through it, and I seemed to find a bit of time there after each lap. This meant I was not so much on the side of the tyre, and a couple of laps to go I managed to dig deep and I could see that I was starting to catch up with him on the last lap, but I was not close enough to make a pass, but thought I would get close enough for him to make a mistake and thought that would open up an opportunity.

“Snetterton has been a good circuit for me, and I am trying to break the pattern of Shakey keeping winning, and I need to start to change the script a little. I am just hoping that the same pattern of us being strong at Snetterton carries on and if I keep riding aggressive and riding like I am at the moment maybe we will have something to give to Shakey, but we will keep trying.”
