Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes narrowly missed out on his first MCE British Superbike win of the season after a mistake at Brundle cost him a chance to fight with Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne for the victory.

Brookes came away with two podiums, after ending race one in second, behind Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes. He was not able to go one better, and had to settle for third. The Aussie has now dropped to third in the overall championship standings, and after struggling in the later part of the race with his bike, Brookes hopes he can improve for the next round at Brands Hatch.

“I felt I was able to close in on Shakey and felt able to take on first place, but I tried to recover some decent pace towards the end but I felt like I was going the wrong way and the bike was not performing at the end of the race. So whatever we gained at the start did not make it a consistent bike so I lost out a bit at the end, but it doesn’t matter anyway because I made that mistake,” said Brookes, speaking at the circuit.

“I am looking forward to Brands, but before that I have to go to Japan for the Suzuka Eight-Hours testing so that’s my focus at the moment, but as soon as that’s done I will be back and geared up for Brands Hatch. I believe that we can always improve and see if we can beat the other guys."
