Brands BSB: Setup 'gamble' pays off for Easton

Mar-Train Yamaha's Stuart Easton bounced back to form in the first Motorpoint British Supersport race this morning at Brands Hatch, but admitted he took a big 'setup gamble' in order to take the win.

The wee Scotsman was enthralled in an epic battle for the win with championship rival Alastair Seeley and took advantage of a last corner, last lap 'lunge' from Seeley to reduce his championship advantage to 35 points.

"It's always good to win but there were some big changes to the bike this morning, we took a bit of a gamble. We had to make a fairly sizeable change, which luckily paid off. Conditions in warm-up weren't ideal with a bit of drizzle so we couldn't test what the changes would do and we were a second and a half off of the pace," said Easton, speaking to bikesportnews.com after this morning's first race.

"I didn't feel the most confident as a result but I got a good start, flicked the switch and tried to get involved. Once you do that for a few laps, you start to believe you can win and I managed to be there at the end.

"You can never tell how a last lap is going to work out but he was defending heavily and the lap was so slowed right up. We swapped places a few times, despite him being so defensive, and he then ran a bit deep into Sterlings and I got alongside him, he fought back at me but then went for a lunge at the last corner and ran really deep. I managed to square it off and that was the story of the last lap, he was coming through but running wide and I was able to get to the line first."
