Brands BSB: ‘Still work to do’ for victorious Byrne

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne bounced back in a big way at his home MCE British Superbike round at Brands Hatch, after spectacularly crashing out of race one, but then riding a faultless performance in race two. Even though he came away with a win, the rider is adamant that there is more work to do on his bike before the Showdown stages.

Byrne had a strategy for race one, but that all fell by the waste side after hitting the gravel at Hawthorns, but he made up for that with a strong start and good pace in race two. The triple champ is fully aware that the series could be decided at the GP circuit in a few months time, so he will be closely analysing the work his team have done today, so that he can come back stronger.

“We had a good strategy for race one, and wanted to sit there and watch Josh and Alex for a bit, and then try and break Josh and Alex. I  then thought I can try and push for the front, but I went straight out of the back door when I did. But the team worked hard as I made a bit of a mess of the bike,” said Byrne, speaking at the circuit.

“Every weekend I want a good battle and it is great to go racing, it is not a time trial. I have got three shots to get my 50th win at Oulton, and my bike was not too bad there before. We know we still have a bit of work to do, and we are working towards the Showdown. For me Brands was only round six of the championship, and not just my home circuit.

“Ultimately this is the track that will decide the championship at the end of the year and we need to analyse everything that has gone on this weekend and continue to develop our package, so all credit to the team for rebuilding the bike and I am happy to have repaid them with the win.”
