Buildbase BMW's James Westmoreland had another productive MCE British Superbike weekend at Brands Hatch after narrowly missing out on a podium in race one with a fourth pace finish and a sixth in the last session. Now the rider is creeping up on the top five racers in the championship, but is quite happy to be seen as the underdog of the series.

The rider who hails from Beverley feels the bike is working well, but the lack of podiums this year still weighs heavily on his mind. But Westmoreland is continuing to progress with his good form and is working on his race aggression.

"I quite like being the underdog as I don't like the attention. I think the package I have got is very, very good and I have no doubt that if Shakey was on my bike he would still be winning races, so it is down to me. I am having a little look at myself and maybe I need to be a bit more aggressive, or faster in certain parts of the circuit, or change my riding style," said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

"Fourth and sixth this weekend is a great achievement and it is great for the team, and I am kind of happy that I am disappointed with it, because I feel I can put in a bit more. In the second race I had a bad start, and had to pass a lot of people, so my pace was very good even though the result doesn't reflect that. But we have had top six finishes in nearly every race and what ever it says on paper we are the next best team after the top five, and I am happy with where I am."

Westmoreland's good run of form has pushed him up to 100 points in the overall championship standings, and ties him in sixth place with his team-mate Jon Kirkham. Now both BMW riders are battling for that all important final place in the Showdown.

"Jon and I are very similar and we had a good battle in the second race and we are not dirty on track, it is what it is and the most important thing for the team is that they get one rider in the Showdown, which is what is important. We get on well, and we are both quiet people and we do our job and go home.

"I will be upset if I don't get a podium this year, as I have been knocking on the door, especially after a fourth place finish. So this weekend has been a bit frustrating, but I am sure it will come soon."
