Smiths Triumph's Billy McConnell got the better of Stuart Easton's Mar-Train Yamaha to take victory in today's first Motorpoint British Supersport race of the weekend at Donington Park to make in two wins in a row after his Cadwell Park success.
The pair swapped places and paint throughout the 12-lapper with Adelaide-born McConnell crossing the line less than half a second in front of Easton - but the Hawick racer has made big inroads into the points lead of Alastair Seeley as the injured Carrickfergus rider limped home in ninth.
Seeley's lead is now just nine points with another race tomorrow but the Gearlink Kawasaki man is carrying a broken rib from a crash at Cadwell Park and re-injured his arm yesterday in a big crash at Craner Curves. He faces an 18-lap race tomorrow.
At the front, Easton and McConnell had reigning champion Glen Richards for company but the second Smiths Triumph rider didn't have and answer for the front men despite setting the fastest lap of the race on his fifth circuit.
Ben Wilson was involved in a scrap with Graeme Gowland, Richard Cooper and Jason O'Halloran for fourth place and just won out as Samsung Honda's O'Halloran ran across the gravel in the closing stages. Glen Irwin, Seeley and Taylor Mackenzie rounded out the top ten.
