Donington BSB: Backlund confident of a win after debut Superstock 1000 pole

ILR Kawasaki’s Filip Backlund will start the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race at Donington from pole, his first in the British Superbike series, and now the Swedish rider is aiming for his maiden win too.

Backlund has been experiencing problems with his bike over the last few rounds, but those issues have now been rectified. The Swedish lad is familiar with the Leicestershire circuit and is confident he can come away with a Superstock victory tomorrow.

“It is nice to get on pole as we have been struggling with the bike over the past few races and now when everything is working we have shown that we have good race pace. I have been here once before in 2008, but I do like this track, it suits me and my riding style,” said Backlund, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“I am now looking for my first Superstock 1000 win tomorrow. We have changed the bike a bit as we have been struggling with technical problems and the bike is now working as it should, and we can make some progress.

“I have been talking to some Swedish riders and told them that they should come over and race in the BSB series as it is one of the best championships and the organisation works really well, so I have been telling my friends to come over and race in the UK.”
