Assen BSB: Lowes has the double in his sights

Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes has already made it to the top step of the podium after taking the win in the opening MCE British Superbike race at Assen, and now the title fighter contender wants to do the double and steal the win for the second time today.

Lowes was locked in a battle with Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne for the entire eighteen lap race earlier this afternoon, and just pipped the reigning champ to the post by one tenth of a second.

Byrne still leads the championship by only a single point and Lowes is confident he can outpace the rest of the pack again, and will start race two from pole after setting a new lap record in the first race of the day, and will try to make it six wins out of six.

“I struggled a little bit with the front tyre, but I feel really sorry for Ellison as his bike broke. But the last three laps is what I live for, win, lose – whatever. I had a massive smile on my face thinking is Byrne going to be there, and that is why I train everyday,” said Lowes, speaking at the circuit.

“To come out on top is great, but it is only race one of the Showdown but I am going to give it everything. If I don’t win this championship it is not without the lack of trying, and if we have another battle like that for race two, then I will be happy."
