Samsung Honda’s Jason O’Halloran left it till his final lap to go fastest in the final Motorpoint British Supersport free practice session, and his last lap dash proved costly for Gearlink Kawasaki’s Alastair Seeley as he was systematically pushed down to second.
The wee wizard of Carrickfergus was leading the charge and looked poised to clinch the provisional pole spot, after topping the timesheets after 40 minutes. But O’Halloran pulled a super fast 2’14.517 lap out of the bag, going one tenth of a second quicker than the Northern Irishman.
Mar-Train Yamaha’s Stuart Easton was the fastest rider with thirty minutes of track time left, but the championship leader could not out pace the likes of Seeley and O’Halloran and finished the session third fastest with a 2’15.316.
Oxford TAG Triumph’s Richard Cooper ended the afternoon fourth quickest, followed by Techcare/Profile racer Luke Mossey. Profile’s Luke Stapleford did start off the second free practice as the quickest rider, but began to slide down the timing screens to end the day in sixth, only three one-hundredths of a second quicker than Tyco Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie.
Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson, Smith Triumph’s Glen Richards and Appleyard Doodson Macadam rider Graeme Gowland rounded off the top ten.
In the opening free practice outing earlier this morning the weather conditions were notably worse. Wind and rain showers affected the morning session but that did not seem to faze Richards, as he topped the timesheets, followed by O’Halloran and Irwin. But because of the wet conditions times were a lot slower than this afternoon’s track activities, with Richards posting a time of 2’30.219.
