Gearlink Kawasaki’s Alastair Seeley received a ten second penalty over an accident involving Samsung Honda’s Jason O’Halloran in the second Motorpoint British Supersport race today at Silverstone.
The two riders clashed on lap eleven, which resulted in O’Halloran crashing out while he was in podium contention. Evidence was reviewed by the Race Director and the Judicial Clerk of the Course including broadcast, CCTV footage, marshals’ reports, ECU data and explanations from the riders involved.
A time penalty of ten seconds - resulting in a loss of seven places in the race result has been inflicted on Seeley, who was adjudged to be primarily responsible for the incident. Background circumstances that were considered included the nature of the corner, being the slowest corner on the circuit where variable racing lines are common.
The significant point of disagreement between the riders was that Seeley believed he was in a position on the track where he considered O’Halloran would have had some awareness of his proximity, whilst the Aussie stated he had none.
The right of appeal was advised to the affected parties, but no appeal was received. With that decision Seeley now trails current championship leader Mar-Train Yamaha’s Stuart Easton by nineteen points.
