Silverstone BSB: Results ‘not good enough’ for Westmoreland

Buildbase BMW’s James Westmoreland has been left ‘frustrated’ and extremely 'disappointed' with his eighth and ninth place finishes in both MCE British Superbike races at Silverstone, and has branded his results as simply ‘not good enough’.

Westmoreland snatched the last spot in the Showdown from his team-mate Jon Kirkham at Donington Park, and was hoping to close the gap on the other five riders, but things did not go to plan for the quiet Englishman at the Northamptonshire circuit. But he has moved up the championship standings, and ahead of Samsung Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari, into fifth place among the title fighters.

But the rider experienced some issues with the bike and was unable to capitalise on the good form that he had two rounds previous, but after hailing his pace as ‘average’ this weekend he hopes to improve for the final three races at Brands Hatch.

“In all honesty I am very disappointed as I didn’t come here to finish eighth and ninth, my pace was really good two rounds ago, and now I am just average. I feel that I rode better at Silverstone than I did at Donington but I had so little feel and was so far back, but at the end of the race I felt quite strong, but it is disappointing to be in that position,” said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“I made it into the Showdown and you look and Brookes’ results and he had a mediocre Assen and mediocre weekend at Silverstone and I should have really capitalised on that, and the fact that Kiyo was out of this round too. We could be fourth going into Brands and the results are not good enough.

"We have gone backwards for whatever reason; I am not blaming one thing. The bike is similar to what we had at Donington, but maybe my bike was damaged a bit after my crash at Assen, as when it is full of fuel I just have very little feel.

“I think myself and the team is better than eighth and ninth, and everyone is frustrated as we came here for so much more. It is hard to pinpoint what has gone wrong, whether it is me or the bike we don’t know and we are definitely lacking something and hopefully we can find it for Brands.”
