Former Grand Prix and British Superbike racer Sean Emmett was arrested at Heathrow by Surrey Police this morning in connection with the death of his wife Abbie.

Emmett, who had been stranded in Dubai for nine months after authorities there confiscated his passport, was taken in custody as soon as he cleared customs in the UK.

A spokesman for Surrey police said: ""A 43-year-old man has today been arrested by Surrey Police officers at Heathrow Airport in connection with the death of Surrey resident Abigail Emmett, nee Elson, in Dubai in February 2013.

"The man remains in custody while enquiries continue and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
