Brookes smashes Alcarras lap record in testing

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes has smashed the Alcarras lap record on the second day of private testing in Spain, going almost a second faster than the time set by Moto2 rider Nico Terol last year.

On a fresh tyre, Brookes’ fastest lap was a 1’33.6 compared to Terol’s 134.5 and he then went on to set a 1’33.8 and then a 1’33.9 before settling down into a race simulation in the low 1’34s.

“It has been pretty good and we’re really happy with the work we have done. We started off yesterday quite well in the 1’36s and then tried a different rear shock, which made the bike like a boat, so we have gone back to our original, put in a softer spring and dialled in some pre-load,” said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com from a hire car.

“Today we moved the swingarm pivot down, which made it worse, so went more to the centre and that was the optimal setup for Alcarras. It’s strange place, and very undulating - a bit like the run down to the Metrolpole at the North West 200.”
