Brands BSB: Aussie Richards ‘not retired yet’

Paddock favourite Glen Richards has made a return to action in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 series at Brands Hatch as he stands in for the injured John McGuinness at Valvoline Padgett’s.

The laid-back Aussie, who celebrated his 40th birthday last season, will race this weekend and at Oulton Park as the Morecambe Missile recovers from a broken scaphoid in his right hand.

“I didn’t ever hang my leathers up for good and Clive asked me to ride for the time being, so I was glad to accept as I'm not retired yet. I have also been doing some testing and riding dirtbikes to keep up with my fitness,” said Richards, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Brands Hatch.

“The pace in Superstock this year is incredible. Not long ago a late 47s lap would have been good enough for pole and now we’re staring at early 46s. The class has got some fast boys in it at the top, so it’s going to be competitive.”
