Brands BSB: ‘I didn’t want to make any silly mistakes’ – Byrne

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne was grateful that he didn’t make any ‘silly mistakes’ in the opening MCE British Superbike race of the year at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit – and a near faultless performance by the veteran meant he was able to take the maximum 25 points at his home track in race one.

Byrne was able to take advantage of the crashing Milwaukee Yamaha of Josh Brookes who was leading the pack from the triple champ. But with the Aussie out of contention Byrne only had the GBmoto Kawasaki's of Chris Walker and James Ellison to battle with – and after a total of over twenty laps finally got the better of the pair and crossed the finishing line in first place.

“Today we knew we had the drive to do well. I got a decent enough start and I didn’t want to make any silly mistakes, but I made my way into second and saw Chris [Walker] in the front and got into my own rhythm for a bit,” said Byrne.

“I knew Chris would be really fast and I tried to get in the lead as quickly as possible. It is a shame that Josh wasn’t out there as it would have been great to have him in the mix.”
