Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes dominated the second MCE British Superbike free practice session at Oulton Park this afternoon and set a time that was only six one-hundredths of a second off the lap record. After his solid performance out on track he's now feeling comfortable on his bike.
Brookes clocked a 1’35.497, just as the chequered flag appeared, and after a difficult opening practice outing the Newtownards based rider found his race-pace which saw him soar to the top of the time-sheets.
Set-up changes to his bike benefitted rather than hindered the rider, and he’s happy to see his name at the top of the timing screens going into FP3 and qualifying tomorrow.
“In the first session I found it difficult to set a smooth rhythm. I followed James [Ellison] but he soon crept away from me. At the start I felt cold and that was probably down to me not warming up properly,” said Brookes.
“The settings on the bike were not changed from Brands and that is the way I like to start. But the settings didn’t suit this circuit and we made changes to the first session and in between too. In the end I felt comfortable on the bike in the second session and I am happy to be on top.”
