Oulton BSB: Byrne ‘over the moon’ with first and second

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne was in a confident mood going into this weekend's MCE British Superbike double header at Oulton Park. Things started off well for the Londoner as he edged Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes to take the race one victory – his third win in a row.

But the Yamaha of Brookes proved to strong in race two as the Australian rider took the spoils, with Byrne having to settle for second on the rostrum. But even though the former champ missed out on another double – he’s still happy with his performance.

"I'm over the moon with first and second places on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki. The first race was all about me leading and the second likewise for Josh. It's never easy being out front on your own but in the first race I found a good rhythm and was comfortable as I opened up a nice little gap,” said Byrne.

“With four laps to go, the gap started to come down with Josh closing more and more with each lap but I just had enough of a margin to bring the bike home. In race two, Josh got the hole shot and led all the way and whilst there were a couple of places where I could get a good run on him and close up, I just couldn't quite get close enough to make a pass."
