Brands BSB: Electronic issue dents Smrz’s race weekend

Millsport Ducati’s Jakub Smrz started his MCE British Superbike race weekend in a positive fashion after topping the third free practice session, proving that he had the race-pace to be competitive. But the former World Superbike rider has left Brands Hatch a disappointed rider.

He was blighted by an electronics issue in race one, meaning he missed out on a top three place, and ended up in seventh. Then a crash in race two in the wet conditions ruled him out of gaining a podium finish. So after starting the weekend in a confident frame of mind, the Czech Republic racer is not too happy after only coming away with a total of nine points.

“I feel really bad after the weekend. We were doing so well in FP3 and we had a really good pace and we were even good in warm up. In race one we had the pace, but were hampered by an electronic issue which held us back – but it is disappointing as we know we had the pace," said Smrz, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

"The crash in race two happened because I was pushing hard to keep up with the other guys, and I lost the front. So all in all it was a shit day. But I am not hurt after the crash, so that is good.”
