Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne is the first rider in the MCE British Superbike championship to secure a spot in the Showdown, after a third place finish in race one was enough for him to clinch a total of 277 points.
According to the rider he is not feeling 100 percent, after a pushbike crash on Thursday, so getting a podium today proved to be difficult for him. He started on pole put slipped back to third as Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes and Ryuichi Kiyonari stormed on ahead.
“Podiums were always going to be hard today, and this one was especially tough. My bike could have had a tiny bit more side grip though,” said Byrne, speaking at the track.
“I am glad that was a 15 lap race, and I want to say thanks to the physio’s. The steps we have made have been really, really good, and I am going to give the guys a good race tomorrow.
"Being in the Showdown is cool, but it doesn’t alter the fact that we need to win races, and all three of us need to be beating each other, and I need to pull my finger out and win races."
