Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne bounced back from a free practice crash to take pole during the MCE British Superbike qualifying sessions, at Cadwell Park after a superb 1:26.017 - blasting the lap record in the process.
The rider had to contend with charges from Ryuichi Kiyonari and Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes, but in the end the current championship leader, and Showdown contender pulled a super fast lap out of the bag during Q3, which saw him make up for the earlier incident out on track. Even though the rider fell at Hall Bend he was unhurt.
Byrne is more than happy with his lap, but isn’t getting too excited about it, as it is the race which is all important to the Lambeth born racer, and is hoping for more wins and podium credits on Monday.
“I had point nine on my pit board and I was really happy with that, and I knew that was my fastest time I have done here all weekend, and thanks to my team for the work they have done on my bike. But the race is what’s important tomorrow, but I dug deep and it paid off. The fastest lap of the day doesn’t mean much, but I am happy to have done it,” said Byrne, at the track.
