Cadwell BSB: More valuable podium credits for Byrne

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne managed to get on the MCE British Superbike podium not once, but twice at Cadwell Park. But the rider, who hasn’t won at the Lincolnshire track for eleven years, will have to wait for another season to try and reach the top step of the rostrum.

The current championship leader had to settle for two second place finishes behind Milwaukee Yamaha’s Tommy Bridewell in the opening race, and RAF Reserves Honda’s Peter Hickman in the final outing at a very wet track.

But podium credits are the priority for the Lambeth born rider, as his place in the Showdown has already been confirmed, so he is more than happy with getting second today.

“Race two was dreadful, and that was probably one of the longest 15 laps of my life. But I am pleased with two second place finishes, as I didn’t want to push too hard,” said Byrne at the track.

“I thought second was good as Kiyonari and Brookes failed to come away with any points in race two, so I thought it would be good for me to stay on the bike and take home some podium credits.”
