Donington BSB: ‘I've been off the podium for too long’ – Hopkins

Tyco Suzuki’s John Hopkins has shown the MCE British Superbike paddock that he is back and fighting for podiums once again, after topping the second free practice session at Donington Park today.

The American believes that his good form is down to the track – which suits his bike and his riding style, and his new found confidence was evident to see at the circuit today.

It has been fair to say that Hopkins has not had the best of ‘comebacks’ and a rostrum finish has not been on the horizon for the likable rider. The former MotoGP racer is now fighting back, and fans are getting a glimpse of the Hopper of old, circa 2011 - when he was a true title contender.

“It was a good afternoon, it has been a long time coming, and it is a track I enjoy, which is great,” said Hopkins, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the Tyco Suzuki garage.

“It is a track that is not all dependant on horse power, and it is about having a good bike which handles well, chassis wise. But unfortunately on the acceleration and horse power tracks we have been struggling quite a bit, but everything feels good here, and I like the track a lot, and setting wise everything feels good too.

“I have been off the podium for too long, and I haven’t been on it this year and I am not happy about that, and I know that the team haven’t been either, so let’s hope we can get on the podium – and even the top step.”
