Danny Buchan joins Moto Rapido Ducati for British Superbikes 2016

Fast youngster Danny Buchan has signed to join Steve Moore’s LLoyds British Moto Rapido team to contest the 2016 MCE British Superbike Championship.

Buchan will move away from the Ninja ZX-10R he has raced since he was a teenager and on to a big twin as Moore throws his weight behind a young rider instead of opting for a safe old-stager.

“Wilf and I get on well, we met through Dave Tyson. He is a straight-talker, I appreciate that. It’s refreshing to deal with someone who is straight with you. We started talking with about four rounds left to go, I had some chats with their mechanics and it was like a setup date kind of thing. They were looking for a rider, I was looking for a ride. Then we sat down and discussed what we wanted to achieve and it was basically the same stuff so it was daft not to sign,” said Buchan, speaking to Bikesport News last weekend.

Buchan has been a Kawasaki man for most of his big-bike career, so he will not only be switching from Japan to Italy, he will also be riding with two less cylinders for the first time.

“It will be the first time I have raced a twin. I rode a Panigale a couple of years ago in Australia and loved it. It’s going to be interesting. I adapt to bikes pretty quickly so I don’t anticipate any problems there. I think with a good testing plan and I think we should be competitive on it. I am looking forward to the challenge - it’s a new team and manufacturer for me so that’s exciting. Kawasaki were very good to me and it’s sad to move on but that’s racing. It is how it is and I am looking forward to it.”
