JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam goes to this week’s Cartagena Pro-Test ready to try the full 2016-spec ZX-10R for the first time at a track where he holds the lap record from his days with the Ten Kate Honda WSBK squad.
At previous tests, Haslam got himself dialled into the big ZX-10R, riding with no electronics for the first time in years and generally assimilating the gathered data before moving on to this year’s bike with fly-by-wire throttle and other upgrades.
“I know the guys haven’t stopped developing the bike since the last test so I’m really excited to try it out and see the level we’re at – particularly at Cartagena where some of the other BSB guys will be out on track,” said Haslam.
"Cartagena and Guadix are both great circuits, and although I haven’t been to Cartagena for about three years I still hold the lap record there which is pretty cool. The opening race isn’t far away now so we’ll be using the tests to get the bike set up and ready so we can head to Silverstone confident and ready to challenge at the front.”
Haslam put in a 1’32.6s lap at Cartagena in 2014 but then team-mate Jonathan Rea intimated he had actually gone faster. Not wishing to cause an argument or anything…
