JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison was the fastest rider out on a damp Silverstone track, during the final MCE British Superbike free practice session, before qualifying.
A 2’19.572 on his penultimate lap was good enough to place the Kendal racer P1 on the timing-screens but he was chased hard by WD-40 Kawasaki’s Sam Hornsey who posted a 2’19.870, going three tenths slower than the former MotoGP man.
Smiths BMW’s Jakub Smrz finished FP3 with a 2’19.970, but he ended the session in the gravel after falling at Farm. ePayMe Yamaha’s John Hopkins and JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam completed the top five, with a 2’20.616 and a 2’21.136 respectively.
Due to the drying track no one went over lap record pace, but many of the riders did brave the damp conditions and ventured out on to the Northamptonshire circuit.
Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty, Smiths BMWs Howie Mainwaring, Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran, Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon and Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne rounded up the top ten.
Moto Rapido Ducati’s Danny Buchan was an early faller out on track, and dropped his Panigale at Club, but was fortunately unhurt. RAF BMW’s Alastair Seeley experienced a technical problem and came to an abrupt halt at Copse.
