Donington BSB: Quickest Showdown contender Mossey targets more podiums

Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey was the fastest of the Showdown contenders, during the second MCE British Superbike free practice session at Donington Park. He lapped a 1’29.196, going 0.4 seconds under the lap record.

The new dad out-paced fellow title fighters, Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne, both JG Speedfit Kawasaki bikes of Leon Haslam and James Ellison, and the two Honda Fireblade's of Jason O’Halloran and Dan Linfoot.

Mossey did not go out in the opening free practice, due to the wet conditions. But in the dry he tried out both the SC0 and SC1 rear tyres, and because of the cold track he is still unsure of which compound he will use for race day.

“The bike feels really good and we haven’t really changed much from Oulton and I think we are still on a bit of a high from the second place on Sunday,” said Mossey, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“The bike feels awesome - not changed anything for tomorrow so looking forward to going out there and digging deep. The weather is looking a lot better for the rest of the weekend. We didn’t go out in FP1 as I thought it was pointless I am surprised with how many people went out but we sat in and I think we did the right thing.

“Hopefully we can bag a lot more podiums and now we can be a bit of a spoiler hopefully. We did a race run on a one (tyre) and I feel really happy with that and we did a faster on a zero. We are not sure what we are going to go with yet, but it was hard today as it was cold and it was our first proper run. The bike feels mint.”
